Harvey Elliott on phonecalls about Firmino, what he's been told at Liverpool and training commitment

Harvey Elliott has revealed a clear demonstration of his commitment to Liverpool.

The starlet explained that he went back to train with Barry Lewtas' U23s group a week early so he was in good shape before heading out to Austria to join up with the first-team during pre-season.

The talented teenager, who made eight appearances for the Reds last season, opened up on how excited his Liverpool-supporting family are that he's a part of Jurgen Klopp's squad.

His dad has been phoning him and messaging each day to ask how training has been while his nine-year-old brother, who Elliott explained was a "Liverpool fanatic", has also been calling to ask about his favourite player: Roberto Firmino.

"I worked hard throughout the two weeks we had off," Elliott said.

"I went back to join the U23s a week early so I could come out here in good condition.

"This year is a big year for me and I want to achieve a lot of things.

"In the downtime from pre-season training I've been chilling. I brought my console out here so I could play a bit of FIFA.

"If I'm not doing that, I'm getting a nap here and there - the training sessions are intense and you need to recover well and make sure your body is in the right place.

"Coming into the team and looking at the squad last year, I just thought wow.

"I didn't even think I'd get one appearance but I am so grateful for the opportunities and I just hope I showed people what I can do.

"And then not only as a player, but as a fan to see everyone so happy after 30 years of hurt and to be in and around the squad while they lifted that trophy is any young boy's dream.

"I used to tell my dad when I was younger I wanted to be in the Liverpool team that won the Premier League and to actually have done that is gobsmacking to be honest.

"My dad is a big Liverpool supporter - he used to travel home and away.

"He calls or messages me every day, he's excited and always asking about training.

"Even my little brother to be honest, he's nine years old and a Liverpool fanatic - his favourite player is Bobby, he always calls me and asks 'where's Bobby, how's Bobby?'"

Elliott played 45 minutes during Liverpool's friendly match against Stuttgart on Saturday and once again showed what he was about, making sharp runs and firing solid efforts at goal.

He explained that coaches at the club always tell him to play with freedom during games.

"The one thing at this club is everyone tells you to go out there and show who you are," he told the official club website.

"Having people around that give you the confidence to go out and express yourself, play with that freedom, helps me a lot too.

"I think to myself, this is a club I have been supporting. That drives me on even more to give that bit extra to the fans, give more to the club and give 100%.

"The main ambition for this year is to go out and win the Premier League again so we can celebrate with fans. If anyone deserves it, it's them."
