Hartcliffe man who assaulted two police officers is given time to prepare for prison

A Hartcliffe man who assaulted two police officers has been told he will be jailed.

Martin Williams appeared at Bristol Crown Court charged in connection with an incident in Padstow Road, Knowle West, on September 26.

He asked Judge William Hart for an indication of sentence on guilty pleas, and the judge told him he would get a maximum of three years.

Williams, 28, of The Groves, Hartcliffe, then pleaded guilty to wounding PC Andrew Gilbert with intent to resist the arrest of another; assaulting emergency worker PC Matthew Williams; damaging property.

Sam Jones, defending, did not ask the court for a pre-sentence report.

But he did ask that sentencing be adjourned for his client to put his affairs in order.

Judge Hart adjourned sentence until November 28.

He told Williams: "You know that on November 28 I am going to pass a significant prison sentence upon you.

"That is unavoidable.

"You had the very good sense to enter guilty pleas."

Williams was bailed pending sentence.
