Harry Tyrer responds to Everton legend Neville Southall's brilliant message

Everton’s pre-season victory over Preston North End saw one Blues youngster stand up and be counted.

With Jordan Pickford and Jonas Lossl away on international duty, young goalkeeper Harry Tyrer was handed the responsibility of playing between the sticks.

The 18-year-old academy starlet enjoyed a successful season with the Blues’ Under-23 side last term, and is highly-rated at Finch Farm.

Tyrer performed admirably in keeping a clean sheet at Goodison Park, with his communication and distribution skills catching the eye.

After the game, Tyrer tweeted expressed his gratitude over making his first senior appearance for Everton, and soon after Blues legend Neville Southall sent a reply, praising the young stopper’s performance.

Tyrer then sent a reply of his own to Southall, thanking the Everton icon for his support.

“Thanks for the support big Nev, means a lot,” Tyrer wrote.

“Hopefully my career will be as good as yours.”

Southall responded again, handing the young Everton goalkeeper some advice for his career going forward.

“I hope it’s a lot better mate,” said Southall.

“Just try to improve every day. You will get there.”
