Harry Maguire sends Liverpool warning to Manchester United teammates

Harry Maguire has warned his Manchester United teammates that they are in for a big week as they prepare to face Roma and Liverpool.

United endured their eighth goalless draw of the season at Leeds United on Sunday, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side only managing four efforts on target during the game.

The point leaves United eight clear of Leicester City in the race for second, although the Foxes have a game in hand, but they're now 10 behind leaders Manchester City.

Next up for United is the first-leg of their Europa League semi-final against Roma on Thursday, before they welcome Liverpool to Old Trafford on Sunday.

And Maguire believes his side must be better than they were at Elland Road in both games this week.

He said: “It's a big week. We need to improve on today, for sure, we need to be more clinical in the final third.

“Obviously Roma in the Europa League is going to be a tough tie, but it's one we are looking forward to, and then Liverpool at Old Trafford.

“It's a big week, but we've got to go into it full of confidence and try to improve on what we've shown today.”

While fellow United defender Luke Shaw has called on his teammates to find a cutting edge in front of goal.

The left-back wants to see a more clinical approach in the final third if his side are to take the next step.

"I don’t think they really had too many chances, we’re defending right, we’ve improved a lot since the start of the season, we were conceding way too many goals and we knew that as a back unit and we’ve worked on that," he said.

"We need to keep pushing ourselves to be more clinical in front of goal, because a Man United side with the talent we’ve got we need to be winning today."

Before Shaw added: “I think they changed the way they play a little bit, when they came to Old Trafford they were pressing higher and much more aggressively.

“They were a bit more cautious this time but I still feel we should have won the game.

“They didn't create much for Deano [to deal with], we got in their box numerous times but we weren’t clinical enough. We dropped two points that are crucial.

“We didn’t create too many clear cut chances, but the quality we have in our team, it’s that split second that can win you a game and we’ve got that in abundance, we should be taking chances that we had today. We move on to a very, very important game on Thursday that we need to win."
