Harry Kane told he 'has to' leave Tottenham for Real Madrid to reach highest level

Former Tottenham defender Jonathan Woodgate says Harry Kane 'must go' to Real Madrid if he wants to reach the highest possible level as he can't envisage the striker winning the Premier League title at Spurs.

Kane is enjoying an excellent season under Jose Mourinho, scoring 17 and assisting 14 in a reinvented striking role that has seen him drop deeper and create more, as well as still looking his usual, sharp self in front of goal.

But with bright form come increased transfer links and it may only be a matter of time before one of the game's superpowers comes knocking for the England international.

If that is to be the case, Real Madrid may be top of the list - or at least when Karim Benzema eventually moves on - and if the call does come, Kane must jump at the chance.

That's according to a player who played for both Real Madrid and Tottenham in Woodgate, who said in an interview with Stadium Astro: "If Real Madrid come in for you, especially Harry Kane, he’s got to go.

"If he wants to win trophies and get on to that next pedestal of Ronaldo or Messi, he has to go. I don’t see him winning the league at Spurs over the next few years.

"They’ve got too much to do to get alongside Liverpool. If he wants to win a European Cup, then he has got a chance of doing it at Real Madrid."

Fortunately for Tottenham, Kane is under contract until 2024 and he appears to be happy at Spurs, chasing down the all-time Premier League goal-scoring record of 260 set by Alan Shearer, a tally he is 107 goals away from reaching at the age of 27.

But Real Madrid are, without doubt, an attractive prospect for any player and if anyone has the financial muscle to steal Kane from north London, it may just be the Spanish giants.
