Harry Kane injury update as Tottenham confirm "significant" ankle ligament damage

Harry Kane is facing a desperate race against time to be fit for England’s Nations League campaign.

Tottenham striker Kane underwent a scan today on the ankle ligament injury suffered against Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

It is the same injury Kane suffered against Manchester United in January which kept him out for seven games and five weeks.

This time Spurs medics believe Kane has an “outside chance” of being fit for England as Gareth Southgate will be desperate for the striker to lead the campaign.

But Kane now seems certain to miss Tottenham’s run-in for the chase for top four and the Champions League, although if he takes similar time to recover as before then he could be ready for England.

England face Holland in the Nations League semi final on June 6 and that will be tight, but it is understood Kane believes he has a chance.

Tottenham issued a statement last night which read: “Following assessment over the past two days, we can confirm that Harry Kane has sustained a significant lateral ligament injury to his left ankle following a challenge in our Champions League quarter-final, first leg win against Manchester City.”

“Investigations are ongoing and he will continue to be assessed by our medical staff over the coming week.”

Meanwhile, Tottenham have confirmed that Dele Alli fractured his left hand against City also.

But they are investigating whether he can wear a protective cast and play against Huddersfield on Saturday.
