Harpal Singh Roopra: First picture of Twickenham stabbing victim as man charged with murder

A 38-year-old man who was found dead ‘with stab wounds’ in south-west London has been named and pictured for the first time.

Officers from the Met Police were called to Ellerman Avenue in Twickenham, Richmond upon Thames on Saturday at 11.39pm.

Harpal Singh Roopra was found with stab wounds and pronounced dead at the scene, Scotland Yard said in a statement.

His family continue to be supported by specially trained officers.

George Luka, 45, of Ellerman Avenue, Twickenham, has today been charged with murder.

The Met Police confirmed to The Standard that the suspect and victim were flatmates.

“Suspect and victim were both residents at the same property, a converted house of multiple occupancy,” they said.

Luka is due to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court later this morning.

Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Lee, from the Met's Specialist Crime Command, previously said: "A team of detectives are working to piece together the circumstances that resulted in this tragic incident.

“Our thoughts are with the victim's family at this difficult time.

"Officers will remain in the area throughout the day as they carry out further enquiries and gather evidence.”
