NEW YORK _ A retired federal government worker from Harlem has hit Powerball gold.
Robert Bailey, 67, bought one of two winning tickets for the $688 million jackpot. The lucky ticket was sold at West Harlem Deli.
His score comes out to $125.3 million after taxes. The bonanza marks the fourth-largest payoff in U.S. history and the top win ever in New York state.
"It's a good life changer," he said. "I plan to do the right thing with the money."
The winning numbers from the Oct. 27 drawing were 8, 12, 13, 19 and 27, and Powerball 4.
Bailey has played the same numbers for years.
"A family member gave me the numbers over 25 years ago and I faithfully play them," he said.
He ran into the Harlem deli to get out of the rain on the day he bought the winning ticket.
He was shocked to discover he won the jackpot.
"I said to myself, 'These look like my numbers,'" he recalled Wednesday. "I tried to remain calm and sat down to watch some shows I had on my DVR."
"I didn't sleep the rest of the night," he added.
The other winning ticket was bought at Casey's convenience store in Redfield, Iowa.
