Hapless East Lothian crooks in failed bid to raid pay and display machine at park

Desperate crooks attempted to raid a pay and display machine at an East Lothian beauty spot.

Would-be thieves failed in their bid to bash open the machine and make off with cash from the Tyninghame Links car park at John Muir Country Park earlier this week. Images shared by police show the meter badly damaged down one side of the display where those responsible attempted to wedge it open.

Officers have now launched an investigation to catch those responsible, and they want anyone with information on the crime to come forward. Witnesses should contact police on 101 quoting incident number 1423.

East Lothian Police say: "Between Monday 15 and Tuesday 16 of February, 2021, at Tyninghame Links, Tyninghame, an attempt was made to break into a Pay and Display machine, as can be seen by the picture.

"Police are appealing for any information in relation to this.

"If you witnessed this incident or have any information please contact police on 101 quoting incident 1423 of 18/02/21."

Pay and display machines, and £2 daily charges, were first introduced at the location in the summer of 2015.
