Hanwell: Woman, 23, rushed to hospital after being shot at west London YMCA

A woman suffered multiple gunshot wounds in a shooting at a west London YMCA used to house young single mothers.

The victim, 23, was seen by residents being carried out in a stretcher after the shooting in Bordars Road, Hanwell at 7pm on Monday.

She was rushed to hospital where her condition is said to be not life-threatening.

There have been no arrests made so far in the investigation.

A YMCA resident said she had been stopped by authorities from returning to the residence with her young daughter.

She told The Standard: “I had messaged to see if it was safe for me and my daughter to return and they had said that I won’t be able to and asked if I could stay elsewhere.

“Luckily my uncle heard about it and I slept in his living room, but we are all in the YMCA due to homelessness so if my uncle wasn’t available I don’t know what could have happened.”

She added: “I’m absolutely scared, I already have anxiety and to think that someone has been shot there. I’m supposed to be keeping my daughter in a safe and secure place.

“I’m scared for my child, I could have walked into the other door that’s right opposite the front doors and it could have hit my buggy or my child or me. Who would look after my child then? I am a single mother.”

A spokesperson for the YMCA St Paul’s Group told MyLondon: “On the evening of Monday 26th September, a serious incident occurred at YMCA Hanwell, West London. We are very sorry to report that during this incident a female resident suffered a serious injury which required the emergency services to be called.

“The resident was taken away to be treated in the hospital. As a YMCA we are working with all those affected as well as supporting the police with their investigation. We are grateful for the support of the emergency services who responded swiftly to the incident.”

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “Police were called to Bordars Road, Hanwell following reports of a firearms discharge.

“Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service and found a 23-year-old woman with gunshot wounds.

“She has been taken to hospital, her condition is not life threatening.”

London Ambulance Service said: “We were called yesterday (Monday) at 7.03pm to reports of an incident in Bordars Road, Hanwell.

“We sent a number of resources including an ambulance, an incident response officer and London’s air ambulance.

“We treated a person at the scene before taking them a London major trauma centre as a priority.”

Anyone with information should call 101 giving the reference 6219/26SEP.
