Hannah Waddingham: I've been waiting for the right person

Hannah Waddingham has opened up about her love life

Hannah Waddingham has been "waiting for the right person".

The 52-year-old actress was single for years, before meeting her spine surgeon boyfriend Nick Beresford-Cleary, and Hannah has now lavished him with praise, jokingly explaining that he's "not so shabby".

Speaking to Extra about their romance, Hannah shared: "I mean, he’s not so shabby … I’ve been waiting and waiting and waiting for the right person … You don't have to rush. Eventually, they’ll be along."

Hannah has returned for a fourth season of Ted Lasso, the award-winning TV sitcom, and the actress admits that she jumped at the chance to reprise the role of Rebecca Welton.

Hannah - who was previously in a relationship with Italian businessman Gianluca Cugnetto for a decade - explained: "I thought it was a great, great big yes-yes. I mean, I just thought it was a no-brainer."

The actress admitted that she didn't feel ready to walk away from the hit TV show.

She shared: "I didn’t think it was gonna be anytime soon, but I also didn't think any of us emotionally were really ever gonna go anywhere fully. There would always be a patch that was forever Richmond in us all."

Meanwhile, Hannah previously admitted that she's more keen on women's soccer than men's soccer.

However, the actress also recalled a recent conversation with former England goalkeeper Mary Earps and was surprised by the amount of vitriol that comes her way.

She told the Guardian newspaper: "I was out with Mary Earps, recently. And she was saying, the amount of grief she got from her autobiography … My jaw was on the floor."

The award-winning actress admitted to being caught off guard by the amount of abuse that is aimed at high-profile players like Earps, who has previously played for teams such as Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.

Hannah - who has starred in Ted Lasso since 2020 - explained: "I had a level of incredulity that she [Earps] actually found funny. Maybe I’m naive, but I found the things she was saying unfathomable.”
