Hamilton Accies star Brian Easton pleads for patience from fans after poor start

Brian Easton has pleaded with Hamilton fans for patience and says wins will come, but admits his side must stop giving themselves uphill battles in games.

The Accies skipper was hugely frustrated to lose 2-0 at home to Ayr United in the Championship on Saturday, despite dominating the first half of the game.

Second-half strikes from Steven Bradley and Tomi Adeloye sent the points back to Somerset Park, and Easton was left licking his wounds at the final whistle.

Easton says it's up to him as captain to help lift the players, but says if everybody keeps believing in what head coach Stuart Taylor is trying to do, they'll start picking up points.

He said: "If we get it right there's so much to come from this team, but if we give ourselves uphill battles in every single game it makes this really tough league even tougher.

"This is basically how I started off at Hamilton; in our first season there were loads of new signings, a lot of things were expected of us, and we started off really poorly, but we did get it going.

"The manager is telling us the way he wants to play, and it's important that we believe in that, because I know for a fact that it will start working.

"It's just really frustrating in games when we are playing well - we were dominant in the first half but ended up costing ourselves by giving away cheap goals, which is really frustrating.

"I think I'll definitely be drilling into the boys not to get down.

"We should be down after losing a couple of games in a row, but not to worry too much about it, focus on getting better, and getting in the game, because it will come with this group of players as well."

Easton admits Saturday's trip to basement side Dunfermline is in the /must-win' category, even if it's to get a run of wins going and kick-start their season.

Taylor's side have four points from six games, going into their East End Park showdown, with the Pars two points worse off in 10th, but with a game in hand.

Easton said: "I was thinking [the game against Ayr] was kind of a must-win, just to get our season going, really, just to get a wee run of wins going, so I think next week there's more importance to get that win.

"It's a tough place to go, and I'll be saying to the boys to really concentrate and focus on getting better, and sticking to the task of how the gaffer wants to play.

"I really truly believe if we do that, if we do what the gaffer wants us to do, we're going to get success, but on the other side of that we need to cut out these wee sloppy goals, and start scoring goals at the other end to make the job easier for ourselves.

"Maybe we need a goal to get us off and running; you would say maybe we're concentrating too far ahead, saying get us a win to get a run going, and to get us a goal hopefully we can go on a wee run as well.

"I think the wins will follow that as well."
