Hamilton Accies sign highly-rated defender

Hamilton Accies' new signing Ben Stirling said midfielders Scott Martin and Alex Gogic played a major role in his decision to sign for the club.

Stirling today agreed a deal to sign for the New Douglas Park club subject to clearance.

The 22-year-old, who came through the youth system at Easter Road, enjoyed successful loan spells at Championship clubs Arbroath and Alloa Athletic before making the move to South Lanarkshire.

He says the presence of Martin, who also joined from Hibs in 2018, and talking to Gogic who made a move in the opposite direction during the summer, made a big difference in his decision to join Brian Rice's side.

Stirling told the club's website: "The amount of youth players this club brings through and develops is something I want to be a part of.

"When Brian Rice phoned me I knew this was the cub where I want to develop and hopefully get my chance.

"Looking at Scott coming here from Hibs, playing week in and week out, it gave me that extra incentive to make the move and follow in his footsteps and try to nail down a starting position in the first team."

On Gogic's infuence, Stirling said: "I spoke to Goga on Friday and he couldn't speak highly enough of the club.

"He came here for a few years and loved every minute of it. After my first training session with the lads, I can see why."

Stirling, a former Scotland under-17 international, should be eligible for selection in Hamilton's next match, which is against Hibs at Easter Road on Friday evening.

He said: "There is no better place to start. I just need to focus on impressing over the next couple of days and then hopefully I will be able to get some minutes."
