Hamilton Accies 'on verge of takeover' with mystery parties interested

Hamilton Accies are reportedly "on the verge of a takeover" with two interested parties looking to gain control of the Championship club.

The Scottish Sun claim "two mystery parties" have declared an interest in buying the club, which has been owned by Ronnie McDonald for nearly two decades.

The 71-year-old took control of the New Douglas Park outfit in June 2003 for £1.

However, the club were said to have debts of over £5million when he took over, following his failed bid for Dumbarton just months earlier.

In February last year, Accies chief executive Colin McGowan told Lanarkshire Live Sport the club knocked back a takeover bid from a Chinese consortium a number of years ago.

And it is being reported that one of the prospective buyers is "well-known on the landscape of Scottish football."

Accies were relegated from the Premiership last season and have struggled to get going in the Championship this term, with just two wins from their opening nine games. They are currently eighth in the table.

Brian Rice resigned suddenly as manager in August and he was replaced by Stuart Taylor at the helm.

It is being claimed Taylor's job wouldn't be under threat if any takeover were to go through.

Former Accies manager Allan Maitland is currently chairman at the club.

Accies head to Kilmarnock this afternoon looking to bounce back from a 6-1 thrashing at home to Partick Thistle last Friday night, but takeover talk looks set to loom over the club..
