Hamilton Accies hero Darian MacKinnon makes shock switch to seventh tier Drumchapel

Hamilton Accies favourite Darian MacKinnon has completed a surprise move to seventh tier side Drumchapel.

The 34-year-old ended an eight-year stay at New Douglas Park in January in search of first-team football at Partick Thistle.

However, after the expiry of his short-term deal with the Jags, MacKinnon has opted to move to the ambitious West of Scotland League Conference C outfit.

The veteran midfielder will now turn out for the side who left behind their amateur status this year for the new West of Scotland League set-up. The Drum will compete two divisions below the Lowland League.

MacKinnon was club captain at Accies making over 250 appearances for the side, with the majority coming in the top flight.

However, the ill-fated January move to Firhill saw him make turn out just three times during an axed campaign ending in relegation to League One.

MacKinnon is the latest big name to make the switch to the West of Scotland League after Gartcairn revealed Gary Harkins as their blockbuster signing earlier this week.
