Hamas movement has established a new checkpoint near the US field hospital north of the Gaza Strip, which is supposed to start operating next month.
Israel’s Kan channel said that Hamas has established a new checkpoint near the hospital to secure the location.
The channel said the Hamas wants to control the movement of people in and around the hospital, adding that it wants to monitor those entering and leaving the premises.
Hamas gunmen deployed 70 meters away from the US American hospital, which the Palestinian Authority (PA) says is a military base for espionage.
The hospital has sparked controversy, criticism, and exchanged accusations between Hamas, the Authority, and other factions.
Friend Ships relief organization began construction on the hospital near Beit Hanoun crossing last November.
The organization published pictures and video clips of workers installing hospital equipment near the crossing. It received a great controversy on social media and greater skepticism about the hospital, the timing of its establishment, the authority that will supervise it, and the nature of its work.
Criticism of the hospital spread, especially that it came after the United States cut off all aid to the Palestinian Authority and Palestinians.
Both the PA and Fatah say that the hospital is only an advanced US security base in the Strip, and serves the US-Israeli plan to implement the ‘deal of the century’ and separate Gaza from the West Bank.
The Authority accused Hamas of working with Washington to implement the deal, criticizing the movement’s agreement to establish a US military base under the pretext of a field hospital.
It confirmed its rejection, and the Palestinian people's rejection, of this base.
Palestinian factions also criticized the hospital and considered it part of an economic deal that would help in separating the sector.
However, Hamas said that it would ask the field hospital to leave if there were any security flaws relating to its existence.
The movement noted that the field hospital, which is still under construction, has not been imposed and is currently being tested.
Hamas asserted that the hospital will either help Palestinian people meet its medical needs, or will be asked to leave immediately, and “we will not hesitate for a moment in this decision.”
