BHOPAL: Eight of the 16 thermal power units owned by Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company Limited (MPGENCO) are shut down, with Diwali just four days away.
However, the state is managing to meet its power needs, thanks to a rather surprising drop in demand despite it being irrigation season. On October 30 last year, 25.76 crore units of energy were supplied across the state as peak demand was 12,537 MW.
Strict Covid restrictions were on then. On the same date this year, peak demand touched 10,658 MW and 21.03 crore units of energy were supplied. This, when Covid restrictions have been eased, the buzz is back in business, there is the glitter of festivals, and agriculture season is on full swing.
Here’s hoping that the good times last.
Only 2 units are working at the Satpura plant
Only two of the six generation units at Satpura Thermal Power Station are working, and three of five at Sanjay Gandhi Thermal Power Station. At Shri Singaji, two of the four units are in operation, so is the lone unit at Amarkantak Thermal Power Station.
One 660 MW unit at Shri Singaji tripped on Saturday night, but it was due to some minor issues and the unit was again up and running, said sources. Thus, of the 5,400 MW installed capacity of thermal generation, only around 1400-1500 MW is being generated by MP Genco, said sources.
