Hakeem Odoffin transfer latest as Hibs target urged to stay by Brian Rice

Brian Rice admits it would be difficult to replace Hakeem Odoffin as interest in the midfielder grows.

Hibs are one of a number of clubs who want to sign him, with Jack Ross hoping he can fill a space in his squad left by Jackson Irvine's move to St Pauli.

And Hamilton gaffer Rice hopes he can hold onto him but admits that the selling point of Accies being a stepping stone means it will be tough to keep him.

Oddofin signed an extension to his contract at the end of the season so Hamilton would get a transfer fee for him and Hibs face competition from Rotherham.

They hope European football at Easter Road will help them persuade Oddofin to return to the Scottish Premiership instead of heading down south.

And Rice admits that everyone is aware of the interest and it means Oddofin has a decision to make.

He said:"There’s been some interest shown towards him and the chairman, myself and the player are aware of it.

"We’re very keen to keep him. He was fantastic for us last season.”

“He came here, he wasn’t playing at Livingston, we found a position for him and he was outstanding.

“He’s been great for the club and the club has been fantastic for him.

“It’s always difficult to keep players but that’s the selling point when you bring them here. Give them an opportunity and a pathway forwards.”

“He’s done his job and so have we but it’s always difficult to replace them.

“It’s a tough market. It’s trying to get the right players. Patience is the key word.”
