Hailey Bieber just dropped the calmest, clearest clap back to the internet’s weirdest insult — and it’s the kind that shuts down a comment section in seconds flat.
During the latest episode of her In Your Dreams podcast with Owen Thiele (who you may remember from Overcompensating and Adults), the 28-year-old model spoke about being targeted by trolls who accuse her of being transgender — as if that’s a bad thing. Her response? Not even close.
“People are trying to be mean,” she said. “They’re like, ‘She looks trans.’ And I’m like, why do you think that’s a diss?”
The chat started playfully. Thiele teased her mid-episode after she adjusted her jeans, laughing and accusing her of being “hard”. Bieber cracked up before joking back, “The rumours are true”.
But from that moment, the conversation turned serious — and surprisingly touching — as she opened up about how bizarre it feels that anyone thinks trans is an insult.
“As if being trans is a diss?” she continued. “Some of the most beautiful women, and men, in the world are trans. I don’t take that offensively at all.”
Bieber didn’t share names or examples of where the comments come from — she doesn’t have to. Social media has long made her a favourite target for baseless speculation and conspiracies, with so-called “transvestigator” accounts trying to pick apart celebrity appearances online.
Later in the episode, she got candid about how she wants people to treat each other with more compassion. “My big dream is that people have more empathy,” she said.
“If we could meet each other with a little bit more understanding, I feel like society would be a better place.”
Between building a billion-dollar beauty brand and welcoming her first child with Justin Bieber last year, she’s clearly not losing sleep over the internet’s loudest critics.
