Hafta letters: Nuclear energy, Gujarat election, Club Q shooting

Thank you for the episode on COP, I enjoyed it very much. However, I was looking forward to hearing more about India's specific strategy and what it means for us as citizens. I read some pieces on the internet, but there were so many ifs and buts with each commitment that I felt lost. Would love it if you could do a video or piece explaining this for laymen.

Also, I recently found out that nuclear energy is not counted as a clean fuel and wonder why. Some of the articles I read state this is because of the waste that could be emitted if an accident or war occurs which feels like we are solving for the exception rather than the rule. Love to hear the panel's thoughts on this.

I love listening to Hafta, please keep up the good work.

Hi folks,

Could you keep in mind the healthcare programme soon to be launched by the Andhra Pradesh govt for a future story or even an NL Sena project? It seems to be a model that at least by word of mouth has created a buzz in Hyderabad. It's even caused the Telangana government to start looking into it for their state.

I feel sorry that the Sena project for Gujarat election is being a laggard. But the fact of the matter is that it is very difficult to get excited about elections in the state of Gujarat. If I have a limited amount of money that I can donate, then spending it on the Gujarat election seems to be a bit of a waste. I feel like I should save it for a time when something meaningful comes along. I can understand it will be unpopular, but the state of Gujarat is a write-off and, in many aspects, a basket case. I know many Gujaratis, but still have to meet one who is ready to listen to any criticism about their state or Modi or Amit Shah.

Hello, NL team. This is Bala from Portland.

Would like to get your thoughts and spur discussion on the reapportionment of parliamentary seats scheduled for 2026. Will it go the 2001-way? Or given the current dispensation’s liking for “tough decisions”, will it bite the bullet since it is likely to benefit the gangetic belt, their stronghold vs the south. Would appreciate if you discuss this in detail sometime.

I was mildly disappointed by the lack of mention on Hafta of the recent Club Q mass shooting in Colorado. This anti-LGBTQ hate crime killed five, injured dozens. Ironically, it happened (1) barely days after CO made history re-electing America’s first and only openly gay governor; and (2) barely hours after a bipartisan senate bill garnered enough votes to constitutionally ratify same-sex marriage. Two steps forward, one backward. Praying for strength and support!

Love Hafta, keep up the great work! You have a great team, a great app and it's an absolute delight to listen to y'all.

Not sure why Abhinandan and Mehraj had to argue for such a long time about the legitimate way to appoint judges. Got a bit tired of an argument with the same issues going round and round without an informed intervention. Felt like two people trying to get the better of each other.

I have spent all of my adult life abroad and never got an opportunity to vote. I need someone smarter than me to explain how a guy can live in Delhi, represent Varanasi, and then vote in Ahmedabad? Does it make sense? The least I expect is the representative to change his residence to the constituency he is representing. This just feels all kinds of wrong.

Also, someone please explain (without laughing) what is the point of the Election Commission of India?

Hi, my English isn't good, so I'll write in Hinglish. Sorry.

Mera aapse sawaal hai ki kya aapko lagta hai NL sirf subscriptions pe chal payega?

Yeh sawaal isiliye hai kyunki main aapka Gujarat aur HP ki reporting follow kar raha tha, aur NL Sena fund abhi tak fill nahi hua hai.

Main middle-class se hoon. Jab mehangaai itni badh chuki ho, rent, food, fuel, medicine ke prices aasman pe ho, toh kya aapko lagta hai ki ek normal middle class Indian insaan aapke NL fund ko support kar payega on top of the normal subscription?

Subscription ke alawa bhi, mujhe lagta hai aapka ek aur revenue stream hona chaiye, jaise advertisements, ya sponsored posts. Ethical advertising, agar aisa kuch hota ho toh. Bina steady revenue ke aap kaise grow kar payenge aur talent ko kaise retain karenge.

Main NL ki reports padhta hoon aur podcasts sunta hoon. Acha lagta hai dekh kar ki mehnat ka paisa sach dikhane ke liye istamaal ho raha hai.

Agar chota muh badi baat ho gayi ho toh maaf karna.

Thank you,

Tabaraq
