Hafta letters: Mukesh Ambani, series on Congress scams, Hafta thumbnails

I had sent this to AnA also but would appreciate it if you can read it on Hafta also.

You said you know the person who wrote the anonymous letter. How can you know when the Google form states that the email is not shared, and I had and have given a fake name and email ID?

Also, I had a question: Why would the Ambanis willingly sell their indirect stake in a prestigious media property or give away a big scalp (based on your politics) to their biggest business rival? The whole media property is worth a trivial amount of money for them, so it can't possibly be about the money. If they were forced to sell their stake, what else will they be forced to concede next? Mukesh Ambani is already worth less than Adani, don't you think the big story people are missing is that this very clearly marks the fall of Mukesh Ambani as the most powerful businessman in India?

Can you guys get a mathematics guy to explain the National Herald case? It's been going on for so long. It is more important than just an NL Cheatsheet. Maybe you guys could do a series in Let's Talk About on the scams of Congress (and everyone later) like the 2G, then National Herald, etc. What scams and issues formed the India Against Corruption movement? It might not be a popular topic now, but you guys can reference the work later for future work you guys do on scams, etc.

Hello all,

I admire your work a lot and love the brainstorming you all do on your podcasts. Keep up the good work and I will keep on paying to keep the news free.

I am from Ahmedabad and I guess ya'll will be here to cover the elections in December. I will be happy to support you guys in all ways I can.

I am a huge fan of TV Newsance, aur mera ek hi nara hai, “Hamara anchor kaisa ho? Manisha Pande jaisa ho!”

Thanks,

Saurabh

I've long been an admirer of all the NL comics and illustrations by Sumit, Manjul and Shambhavi. Writing to suggest an NL interview here. I just finished reading Unnamati Syama Sundar's incredible book No Laughing Matter: The Ambedkar Cartoons, 1932 to 1956. I am sure an interview of Syama with the NL team, preferably by any of the NL illustrators, would be wonderful. I think NL supporters would love to hear more from Syama about the book and its making, and in general how today's political discourse of memes and cartoons are shaped by our inherent biases.

On a related note, please read Paromita Vohra's recent article Good People

Great job by Basant on the Yogi NL Sena project!

Dear NL team,

I want to comment on last week’s discussion on caste and Mehraj's dishonesty whenever it comes to sensitive topics in Islam.

First of all, caste is not a peculiar South Asian problem; there are caste systems in Africa, in Japan, etc, and origins of these systems can't be blamed on Hinduism.

Second, whenever social evil regarding Islam is discussed, Mehraj (while he criticises them) always points to historical processes that led to those practices. One can do the same with Hinduism. Historians and genetic studies have pointed out that caste got stratified later. But we don't discuss these processes which criticise caste or sati. Because whatever the reason be for those practices, they are unacceptable. Period. But the urge of Mr Lone to explain the origin of such practices in Islam feels like a divergence tactic.

Regards,

AK

All or Nothing was a great suggestion. I am in sales and recently changed jobs and since I started, I am not doing as good as I should be. That is a sad place to be. But the documentary on Arsenal just filled up the spirits and I am not going to end up making the month-end miserable. Sorry, I forgot the name of who recommended it. I'm really bad with names.

Keep up the good work.

Hey NL team! Just wanted to point out the thumbnails on YouTube for Hafta usually look very sad or awkward. I understand you are trying to project a face but that face could look more happy and energetic. Otherwise, I am really happy with my subscription and would want more fun and non-political podcasts available and I believe that would drive up your subscriptions and provide the necessary funding for serious journalism.

PS: Really doubting the no-ad model is a safe bet against corporate influence. Can you tell if Newslaundry is safe from such a takeover?
