Haason Reddick joins Panthers on one-year contract

The Arizona Cardinals have lost one of their free agents. Former first-round pick Haason Reddick is joining the Carolina Panthers after a career season in 2020 for the Cardinals.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, he is getting a one-year deal worth up to $8 million.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo added he gets $6 million in guarantees.

He is reunited with Panthers head coach Matt Rhule, who was his collegiate head coach at Temple.

Reddick had a breakout year for the Cardinals last season. He has 12.5 sacks, including five in one game.

It was the only good year he had in four seasons for Arizona. He was drafted 13th overall in 2017 after playing defensive end at Temple, and he was moved to inside linebacker. He struggled until the Cardinals moved him to the edge at the end of the 2019 season. He played as a reserve in 2020 until Chander Jones got hurt and was lost for the season and Reddick then played as a starter for the rest of the season.

The Cardinals acquired J.J. Watt and re-signed Markus Golden this offseason, which seemed to make Reddick expendable at outside linebacker.

He will now likely move to defensive end in Carolina, where they run a 4-3 scheme and has a chance to prove himself as a pass rusher for the second season in a row.
