Gurugram: ‘Framed in fake rape case’, 30-year-old dies by suicide

GURUGRAM: A 30-year-old transporter from Farukhnagar area allegedly died of suicide after being “framed” in a fake rape case by a family in Rajasthan’s Alwar.

Police on Monday booked four members of the accused family for abetment to suicide.

Sandeep (30), his family members said, had lent Rs 3 lakh to Sahab Singh, a resident of Alwar. For the past several months, Sandeep had been demanding his money back. Instead of returning the same, the accused kept on demanding more money and got a “fake rape case” registered against Sandeep at Fulbagh women police station in Alwar on July 29.

Unable to bear the mental harassment, Sandeep allegedly hanged himself from a tree on Sunday inside the premises of a primary school in Farukhnagar. He, however, left behind a suicide note blaming the four for compelling him to take the extreme step.

“On Sunday, just before ending his life, my nephew called to inform me that he had written a suicide note and then disconnected the call,” said Muneesh, the uncle of the deceased. “I immediately called back but there was no response from his side. Without wasting any time, I informed my other nephew, Sanjeev, and the family soon started looking for Sandeep.”

After a couple of hours, the family found Sandeep’s body hanging from a tree inside the premises of Premnagar primary school. The school was closed on Sunday. “After I reached the spot, I recovered the suicide note from Sandeep’s Renault Duster that was parked outside the school. The two-page note was addressed to the SHO of Farukhnagar police station,” Muneesh said.

In his suicide note, Sandeep held Saheb and his family responsible for his death. “Sandeep was harassed by Saheb and his family members. Sandeep was framed in a fake rape case due to which he committed suicide,” his uncle said. Sandeep is survived by his wife and six children — four daughters and two sons.

Based on the suicide note and a complaint from Muneesh, an FIR was registered under section 306 (abetment to suicide) and 34 (common intention) of IPC at the Farukhnagar police station on Monday against Sahab Singh and his wife and their two sons. “The case has been registered and an investigation is underway,” said Gurgaon police spokesperson Subhash Boken.
