A gunman in the passenger seat of a luxury van shot dead another motorist on a Bangkok expressway near Pracha Chuen toll booth in Bang Sue district on Tuesday morning.
The killer struck about 200 metres from the toll plaza about 4.50am.
The victim was in the driver’s seat of a white Toyota Altis. He was identified as Anuwat Yatniyom, 34. The man was shot in the neck.
His girlfriend Sawitree, 28, told police that Anuwat earlier picked her up from her friend's room and they were heading for their house in Phetkasem area.
As they approached Pracha Chuen toll booth, a white Toyota Alphard van cut in front of them to enter the booth. She told her boyfriend to slow down and make way for the van.
After they passed through the toll booth she saw the van slowing down. As their car was ascending a ramp across Pracha Chuen Road, the van approached the right side of their car, Ms Sawitree told police.
She saw the left passenger window of the van open and a man fired three or four gunshots at Anuwat. The van then sped away from the scene.
Police were checking security camera recordings as the hunt for killer continued.
