VADODARA: A woman ended her life on seeing her 15-year-old son hanging from a tree in the Mithali village of Shehra taluka in Panchmahal district on Tuesday. It is believed that woman hung herself after her son did so after he was reprimanded on Monday.
According to the police, Lalita Pateliya was found hanging from a tree while the body of her son Manhar (15) was found lying under it.
Manhar was reportedly reprimanded by Lalita on Monday when his father Ramesh had gone to a nearby village. Lalita allegedly hit Manhar with a slipper too. Manhar left home and was not there in the evening when his father returned. “The father wanted to go and find him, but the mother suggested their son would come back on his own,” said Shehra police inspector Nitin Chaudhary.
On Tuesday, the woman left their house in the morning to go to the farm. It is believed that she saw her son hanging from a tree at the farm.
“Prima facie it seems that she brought down the body of her son from the tree. She may have then hung herself from the tree to end her life,” said Chaudhary. He added that the prima facie cause of death in the postmortem was also hanging.
Lalita’s family has, however, sought a thorough probe in the matter suspecting foul play. Chaudhary said that the police would probe their allegations too.
