Guinness recalls new alcohol-free stout over 'contamination' fears

Guinness has today announced it is recalling its new alcohol-free stout from sale over fears some tins may be 'contaminated'.

The new range which just launched a few weeks ago has now been recalled from sale in Great Britain. The product is currently not on sale in Northern Ireland or Republic of Ireland.

A statement issued on behalf of Guinness said: "As a precautionary measure we are recalling Guinness 0.0 in Great Britain because of a microbiological contamination which may make some cans of Guinness 0.0 unsafe to consume. Guinness 0.0 currently is not on sale to the general public in Ireland.

"The issue is isolated to Guinness 0.0 and does not impact any other Guinness variants or brands."

Launching the brand via a Zoom call for the media on October 22 the St James' Gate Brewery said the new alcohol free version had taken four years to perfect but still 'boasts the same beautifully smooth taste, perfectly balanced flavour and unique dark colour of Guinness'.

The popular brand said the new product was in response to growing demand from health conscious drinkers as the new Guinness 0.0 is also a low-calorie option for those choosing to moderate, with only 16 calories per 100ml.

This means a standard can of alcohol-free Guinness 0.0 contains just 80 calories.

They have advised anyone with any tins of Guinness 0.0 at home not to consume them.
