Guinness Guru 'too stunned to speak' after tasting €3.90 pint at Irish pub

The Guinness Guru has taken to a pub in Connemara which has been hitting the headlines for refusing to raise prices amid the cost-of-living crisis.

Johny O Loghlens bar in Cashel Bay, is fast becoming a national icon for its stand against rising prices.

It decided that it would be "holding the line" at an incredible €3.90 for a pint of stout.

However, Guinness fans are putting the pint through its paces with The Guinness Guru amongst the first pint testers to try the legendarily cheap beverage.

And it turns out the bar does a stellar pint, entering an elite tier with an 8.5 out of 10.

The Guinness Guru said he was at first "too stunned to speak" at the gorgeous pint, complete with a full and inviting dome. Darragh declared it a 'Domer Simpson' before diving in for a sup.

When the pint was done, The Guinness Guru was as impressed with the taste, presentation and texture as he was with the price.

"Thanks to Darragh the Guinness Guru for visiting us last week here at Johny O Loghlens to try our Pint of Guinness at €3.90 and gave us a score of 8.5 for our pint."

Colm Redmond is the owner of the Zetland House Hotel in Cashel where you'll find Johny O Loghlens now-famous bar. Galway Beo spoke to Colm about the bar and the rationale behind the retro price of pints at the bar.

Redmond said that the great Scottish-born Dublin businessman, Hector Grey taught him at a young age that: "There's no such thing as a bad profit".

Back in February, Colm Redmond told Galway Beo that he planned to "keep the price at €3.90 for the moment" and explained "Johnny O'Loghlens is a small country pub, it's very much a community bar and a local trade and that's one of the reasons - we have to look after our locals."

More recently, Colm told Galway Beo that the bar was "holding the line at €3.90" with Guinness Guru Darragh finding this week that the cheapest pint in Ireland is also amongst the tastiest.
