Guardian Focus podcast: Millennium development goals

In this week's Guardian Focus podcast, Madeleine Bunting looks back on this week's UN summit on the millennium development goals.

Madeleine is joined by Gobind Nankani, from the London School of Economics, Andy Sumner, from the Institute for Development Studies and Juanita During, from WaterAid to discuss where improvements need to be made to meet the needs of the world's poorest by the 2015 deadline.

The Guardian's health editor, Sarah Boseley, attended the summit in New York, and reports back with conclusions from the event.

High on the agenda at the summit was maternal mortality, an area where improvement has been slow since the MDGs were launched in 2000. The panel discusses why issues surrounding women are failing.

Even if all 2015 targets are reached there will still be around 1 billion people living in poverty. So where next for global development?
