GTA 6 pre-orders are live – this is what you need to know

The game comes after a long two and half year wait. - (Rockstar Games)

Eager fans have been waiting for more than two and a half years since the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI, and now Rockstar Games has finally opened UK pre-orders at midnight on 25 June.

We’re prepared for what could be one of the biggest gaming launches in history, with orders flooding in across Very, EE and on Amazon – where the retailer's listing no longer has the usual yellow pre-order button.

But instead, you now need to click through on ‘see all buying options’, which is a sign that Amazon’s stock is running out (the retailer sold out within six hours in the US).

When does GTA VI launch?

With pre-orders now open, you can buy your copy today, but you won’t be able to play Grand Theft Auto VI until Thursday 19 November, when it officially releases, so try not to get too excited just yet. If you’re ordering the physical edition, you’ll receive it a week early on 12 November, but this is simply to pre-load the game ahead of launch.

What does the preorder include?

Initially, fans were shocked to discover that Grand Theft Auto VI would not be shipped with a traditional disc in its physical edition, instead arriving as a code in a box release. Players will instead be able to pick up the game case several days before the official launch, allowing them to preload the game ahead of release.

Not a fan of digital copies? Fear not. Recognising that many fans still value physical copies, developer Rockstar Games has since announced that a disc-based version of the game will also be released in December. And, once the first release of code copies runs out, the disc edition will follow as standard.

If you place a GTA 6 pre-order on a digital storefront for PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X and Series S, you immediately get access to a free month of GTA+. And, anybody who pre-orders or buys the game before November 20 will also receive the Vintage Vice City Pack, which is a little selection of throwback items based on the classic Vice City game.

How much will the game cost?

Despite some analysts previously predicting a £150 price tag due to an estimated $1-2bn development budget, the standard edition of Grand Theft Auto VI is priced at £69.99, while the ultimate edition comes in at £89.99 – which is no more than any other PS5 game released this year.

What bonuses will GTA VI ultimate edition have?

  • '67 Vapid Dominator Buggy and Paradise Garage
  • Shitzu Squalo boat
  • '95 Grotti Cheetah sports car
  • Exclusive mods for Jason's Vapid Ganado pickup
  • Dinka Enduro motorcycle and Crest Kayak at Jason's safehouse
  • A PTT Youngin$ compound raid activity and special contraband rewards
  • Access to Rideout Customs and One-Eyed Willie's vehicle mod shops
  • Hawk & Little Morgan Revolvers with Vice City styling
  • More than 50 exclusive tattoos from Electric Fang Tattoo
  • Access to the Stock 305 streetwear shop
  • A Classic Car Collection questline (including four cars exclusive to the ultimate edition)
  • Goodtime Gear clothing and accessories
  • Personalised versions of Jason's Girardi ES9 and Lucia's Klose K17 pistols
  • Exclusive Vice City-inspired outfits for Jason and Lucia
  • Signature hairstyles, facial hair, makeup and nails from Sara's Unisex Salon

The bonuses will unlock as players make their way throughout the game and advance in the storyline. If you initially purchase the standard edition, you’re also able to upgrade at a later date.
