Representative Eric Swalwell, a leading candidate for California governor, is facing multiple allegations of sexual misconduct and assault from several women, including a former staffer.
A former staffer accused Swalwell of sexually assaulting her twice while she was heavily intoxicated, and claimed he sent unsolicited nude photos and sought them from her.
Swalwell has strongly denied all allegations, stating they are “flat false” and politically motivated, suggesting they are timed to impact the upcoming election.
Several prominent Democrats, including Senators Adam Schiff and Ruben Gallego, and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, have withdrawn their endorsements and urged him to end his gubernatorial campaign.
His campaign co-chairs and major labour groups, such as SEIU California and the California Teachers Association, have also rescinded their support following the allegations.
