The federal government has established a national advisory group to contribute to a nationwide plan to end family violence.
The 19-member group attended a virtual meeting of the Women's Safety Taskforce on Friday, where representatives from the Commonwealth, states and territories shared what each jurisdiction is doing to end violence against women and children.
Advisory group members represent a cross-section of Australian society including culturally diverse, Indigenous and LGBTI+ communities, as well as children and people with a disability.
Minister for Women Marise Payne said contributions from the expert advisors would be collated in a report, which would help shape a national plan to eradicate family violence.
"The diverse backgrounds and expertise of the advisory group members will ensure we are drawing on wide-ranging ideas and bringing Australians with us as we build the next national plan," she said in a statement.
The advisory group will work alongside the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Council to ensure Closing the Gap targets are included in the national family violence plan.
