Greggs to launch Vegan Sausage, Bean and 'CheeZe' Melt

Greggs has added yet another vegan version of one of its most popular products to its menu.

Since Greggs first introduced the vegan sausage roll in 2019, the Newcastle-based nationwide bakery chain has been developing meat and dairy-free alternatives to its best-selling items, with the likes of Vegan Steak Bakes and vegan sausage sandwiches joining the menu.

This week, Greggs will launch a Vegan Sausage Bean and CheeZe Melt, priced at £1.60. If you're wondering about the spelling of CheeZe, it's because a non-dairy cheese alternative is used, along with vegan sausage and pastry.

Greggs says: "Bursting with delicious ingredients, the all-new bake is a bit of a mouthful - in more ways than one.

Designed to mirror some of the iconic features of the Sausage, Bean and Cheese Melt, the vegan friendly version is also wrapped in layers of golden puff pastry. But instead of the classic filling, it’s loaded with delectable pieces of vegan sausage, grated original and mozzarella flavour vegan cheeZe, and of course tasty baked beans."

Greggs vegan products have proved a hit, especially on launch days, so this time it is letting customers pre-order to click and collect from JustEat.

Hannah Squirrell, customer director at Greggs, said: “The latest addition to our menu gives customers another vegan friendly alternative to one of our most iconic menu items. As we expand our vegan options with the launch of our new Vegan Sausage, Bean and CheeZe Melt, we mark another milestone as we continue with our journey to become our customers’ favourite destination for food-on-the-go.”
