Greggs sign catches the eye in Glasgow as leaders discuss climate emergency at COP26

A student caught the eye of a certain North East bakery chain as world leaders discuss the climate emergency at the COP26 conference in Glasgow.

Adham Sanoufi, a sports science student at the University of Glasgow, was rubbing shoulders with the likes of Extinction Rebellion when walking from Kelvingrove Park to Glasgow Green when he stopped outside of the Argyle Street branch of the Geordie bakery with a home made sign saying 'No Planet No Greggs'.

Greggs ' official Twitter account responded with a Tweet saying: "Gregga Thunberg, love your work."

Adham then responded to Greggs asking for free vegan sausage rolls.

Despite the funny sign and Twitter exchange, the reason Adham and his flatmate were outside Greggs was a serious one.

Adham said: "We knew we would get a lot of attention if we stood in front of Greggs. It's something that young people can relate to. If you do something that's funny and witty, you have a bigger reach.

"World leaders right now aren't giving the amount of care they're supposed to. If we get enough people to be like us and talk about it more, the important people who are in control of things will start to care more and that's the reason we're out there. For those people and those conferences to actually make decisions that have an impact."

Adham is still waiting to hear back from Greggs on the issue of free vegan sausage rolls...
