Greggs is about to start selling £4 evening meal deals at 500 stores

Greggs did so well opening early to offer people breakfast, it's decided to stay open later too.

Offering options for people working late - although not late enough to become a post-pub option - Greggs said it would bring hot takeaway options to 500 stores and keep them open to 9pm.

And from 4pm a meal deal comes in - allowing you to pick up a hot dinner main, wedges and a drink for £4.

Or, for  half that amount, you can get any pizza and drink for £2 after 4pm - or any hot sandwich, wedges and drink for £4.

"The menu aims to satisfy those on-the-go at dinnertime, looking for value, convenience and of course, great taste," Greggs said in a statement.

These are the new hot counter dishes coming in - in addition to the current menu:

Gregg's new breakfast options

Cooked breakfast in a box for £2 or less (Greggs)

• Creamy Porridge (from £1.75) - Creamy porridge made with jumbo oats, double cream and cinnamon
• Veggie Breakfast Box (from £190) - Heinz Beans, cheese omelette and mini hash browns

• Breakfast Box (from £2) - Heinz Beans, cheese omelette, pork sausages and mini hash browns

New hot counter options

Buy alone, or as part of a meal deal (Greggs)

• Spicy BBQ Chicken Bites (from £1.50) -  crunchy BBQ flavour coated chicken breast pieces with free Heinz sauce pot
• Southern Fried Potato Wedges (from £1) - wedges lightly sprinkled with southern fried style seasoning
• Southern Fried Chicken Goujons (from £2.75) - Tender chicken breast goujons coated in lightly spiced southern fried style breadcrumbs

Greggs shops across the entire UK will have the new hot counters added - including those in Newcastle, Liverpool, Glasgow Birmingham, Bristol and the south west.

The first 500 should be ready by Saturday, September 21, representing about one store in four of Greggs' 2000 UK outlets.
