Greg Norman praises Jon Rahm for "classy" speech praising LIV Golf winner amid civil war

Greg Norman praised PGA Tour star Jon Rahm for his 'classy' speech congratulating recent LIV Golf winner Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra.

Spanish youngster Lopez-Chacarra turned professional this summer in order to join the LIV Series, and just three months later was celebrating his maiden pro win.

The 22-year-old saw off some of the world's top golfers to win the LIV Golf Invitational Bangkok, and an eye-watering £3.6 million in prize money. Lopez-Chacarra was not the only Spaniard in the winners' circle on Sunday though.

As a result, his nation's top ranked player Rahm secured a thumping victory in Madrid to take home a third Spanish Open title on home soil thanks to a impressive nine-under-par 62 in his final round.

Following his win, the world No. 5 was seemingly looking to build bridges between the DP World and PGA Tour and the LIV Golf Series, as the sport's civil war continues. In his victory speech Rahm alluded to the idea that the Saudi-backed series are not the 'enemy', whilst congratulating his countryman.

He said: "Although some people want to make us look at them [LIV] as the enemy, he is just a 22 years old guy winning against some of the best players of the world. Congratulations if you see this Eugenio." In the aftermath, Rahm's words have received praise from LIV CEO Norman.

Taking to Twitter the Australian shared a video of Rahm's speech, whilst labelling the world No. 5 classy. He wrote: "This is what professional golf should be all about. Thank you @JonRahmpga for your classy message. Players supporting players. We are all golfers!"

Norman was not the only LIV ally hailing the plaudits onto Rahm's words, with Norman's sentiments echoed by the Spaniard's former Ryder Cup teammate Ian Poulter. Like his LIV boss, Poulter took to social media to congratulate in the 27-year-old on his 'class win and class speech'.

The Englishman wrote: "Congratulations @JonRahmpga class win and class speech.. Thank you for being you." This is not the first time Rahm has looked to ease tensions of the sport's two battling sides.

Earlier in the week in Madrid, the Spaniard claimed LIV players should be allowed to compete at next year's Ryder Cup in Rome - with European and American golf bosses gunning to ban the rebels from the competition. Rahm commented: "The Ryder Cup is not the PGA Tour and European Tour against LIV

"It's Europe versus the US, period. The best of each against the other, and for me the Ryder Cup is above all. I wish they could play but it doesn't look good.”
