Greg James reveals he suffered ‘the greatest hangover’ after attending Taylor Swift’s wedding

Greg James has confirmed he secretly travelled to New York to attend Taylor Swift’s star-studded wedding to Travis Kelce – and suffered ‘the greatest hangover’ as a result

Greg James has confirmed he secretly travelled to New York to attend Taylor Swift’s star-studded wedding to Travis Kelce – and suffered “the greatest hangover” as a result.

Revealing he kept the invitation under wraps until after the ceremony, the BBC Radio 1 presenter, 40, shared details of the celebration after returning to the UK from the New York nuptials, ending days of speculation over whether he had made the guest list for one of the biggest celebrity weddings of the year.

Taylor, 36, and Travis, also 36, married during a ceremony at Madison Square Garden on Friday (03.07.26), with family, close friends and a host of celebrity guests in attendance.

Greg and his wife Bella Mackie were among those present after Taylor had previously promised the broadcaster he would receive an invitation.

The wedding has dominated entertainment headlines following the couple’s relationship, which began in 2023 after the NFL star publicly attempted to give Taylor a friendship bracelet during her record-breaking Eras Tour.

The singer has also remained firmly in the spotlight following the release of her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, while her Eras Tour remains the highest-grossing concert tour in history.

Confirming he had attended the ceremony, Greg wrote on Instagram: “I am currently experiencing the world’s greatest hangover and unable to reply to the hilarious number of messages I have received over the last 24 hours.

“But just to say: True to her word, of course the invitation arrived, and of course I couldn’t tell anyone. And oh my God, what an unbelievably brilliant night. I’m off for a nap.”

The revelation came after Greg had spent last Thursday in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, alongside his BBC Radio 1 colleague Alice Levine, promoting their Bad Chat podcast during the Crossed Wires Festival.

The pair visited Fagans pub on Broad Lane before eating at the city’s Béres sandwich shop, where they ordered the business’s traditional ham, stuffing and crackling sandwiches.

Greg’s colleagues reportedly questioned whether he had suddenly disappeared to New York after he stopped answering his phone, with the broadcaster later confirming the transatlantic journey through his social media post.

Photographs shared online showed Greg attending the wedding with Bella, who wore a red dress, while Greg opted for a black suit before the pair headed into Madison Square Garden.

Taylor first joked about inviting Greg to her wedding during an interview last year after the presenter suggested he wanted Travis to perform a wrestling move on him into a swimming pool.

Taylor replied: “The way that he’s going to do that as soon as he sees you at our wedding. That’s gonna happen.”

When Greg asked whether he would actually be invited, Taylor replied: “Obviously.”

The friendship between Greg and Taylor stretches back more than a decade after the broadcaster drove the singer around London in what he has previously described as a “dodgy hatchback” while interviewing her.

Taylor has since said the pair “get” each other’s sense of humour, and Greg had frequently been asked whether he would attend the wedding.

Appearing on This Morning earlier this year, Greg admitted he was still waiting to hear whether an invitation would arrive.

He said: “I wish that I could come to you today with news of an invitation, but I’ve said this on the radio and to my friends who have been like, ‘Have you got the invitation yet?’

“And I’ve said, ‘Not yet. Or maybe never!’ And I do think it will be great if I get to go with me and Graham, and also very funny if I don’t get an invitation.”

The ceremony was officiated by Adam Sandler.

Taylor’s longtime publicist Tree Paine confirmed the details, saying: “The ceremony joined both families together and was officiated by friend Adam Sandler.”

Guests included Graham Norton, Ed Sheeran, Hugh Grant, Zoe Kravitz, Karlie Kloss, Jack Antonoff, Gigi Hadid, Selena Gomez, Lena Dunham and sisters Este Haim, Danielle Haim and Alana Haim.

Greg remains one of BBC Radio 1’s best-known presenters, hosting the station’s flagship Breakfast Show while also fronting podcasts and television projects.
