Greenland PM says the people want to stay with Denmark, Donald Trump’s response? ‘That’s gonna be a big problem’

The Premier of Greenland, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, has made it clear that the country and its people have no interest in becoming the 51st state of America. Unfortunately that means nothing to Donald Trump who is showing no signs of backing down in his bid to obtain the land by any means necessary.

Speaking on Tuesday, Greenland’s leader stated, “We prefer to stay with Denmark.” The statement couldn’t be any more clear, Greenland does not want to be a part of the United States, as a country the people are happy being a part of the realm of Denmark, this should be enough to end all conversations on the topic, but Trump doesn’t know how to take no for an answer.

Donald Trump won’t back down so easily

Later the same day Trump was asked by a journalist for a response to the premier’s statement. “Well, that’s their problem. I disagree with him.” The U.S. president told the journalist. He also added that he didn’t know anything about Greenland’s leader, “I don’t know who he is. Don’t know anything about him.” before adding what seems like a threat, “that’s gonna be a big problem for him.”

First of all, the fact that Trump apparently doesn’t even know who the leader of Greenland is should tell you all you need to know about how little he obviously cares for the people inhabiting the country. To him it’s just another potential mine for resources and he doesn’t care who he has to step on to get them. Clearly he hasn’t even tried diplomacy, he’d rather just strongarm Greenland into submission.

The statement clearly hasn’t deterred him and we’ll no doubt be hearing more about Trump’s insane plan to take Greenland in the future but at the very least it’s important to remember that the country has made its stance clear, Trump isn’t welcome.

Nobody wants this

“It’s a peculiar brand of confidence that allows a man to disagree with a stranger’s opinion about his own front porch.” Wrote one person on X, pointing out the hubris of Trump to try and dictate how another leader decides to lead their country. Another claimed Trump was “turning into hitler.”

It seems like most understand and respect Greenland’s desire to remain free from Trump’s greedy grasp. Very few are buying the excuse that it’s in the interest of national security and are appalled at the president’s suggestions of taking control of the country by force.
