Green light for 252 new homes as part of East Kilbride expansion masterplan

The next stage of a £68m project which will eventually create thousands of new homes in East Kilbride will get underway this year.

Scottish housebuilder Avant Homes is set to bring 252 homes to Jackton after successfully purchasing land.

Planning for the new development, located on Jackton Road, was granted in February by South Lanarkshire Council.

Now, following the completion of the land acquisition build preparation works are set to commence in the coming months.

It is part of the wider masterplan to transform Jackton through the ambitious East Kilbride Community Growth Area development.

Once complete, the 19.1-acre growth area development plan, which is located less than five miles from the centre of East Kilbride, will not only see an additional 2500 homes but a brand new primary school, five play areas, green space and retail outlets.

In November work started on the infrastructure for the major development with the construction of an access road between Jackton and Eaglesham.

A primary road – located at the junction of Eaglesham Road and Jackton Road –the route will be developed and funded by SLC and is expected to open in 2021.

However, concerns were previously raised over homes being ready before the transport infrastructure was in place to meet the increased demand.

Avant Homes’ Jackton development will include a collection of two, three and four-bedroom homes across 17 of its popular housetypes.

As well as providing new homes for East Kilbride, Avant Homes will also contribute more than £6.3m towards local infrastructure including the completion of the link road between Lindsayfield and Eaglesham alongside investment into local education provision.

Avant Homes Scotland regional director, Andrew Gawthorpe, said: “We are very pleased to have completed the purchase on this piece of land for our latest development in East Kilbride and are now working towards preparing for the initial groundworks to commence later in the year.

“The area has become an increasingly sought after place to live for a wide range of buyers and the delivery of our high-quality, new-build homes will make a significant contribution to the area’s wider community growth plans.”

Works are due to commence later in the year, with the show homes set to follow in May 2021.

The first homes are expected to be ready for occupation in spring 2021, with the overall build with the growth area taking five years to complete.
