A Sam Whiteman century has kept Western Australia in the hunt to chase down NSW's impressive first innings total on day three of their Sheffield Shield match.
The WA opener logged his fifth first-class century midway through the second session at Gladys Elphick Park on Wednesday as his side moved to 2-228 at lunch.
Whiteman (107 not out) was largely untroubled during his 220-ball innings, forming a 157-run partnership with Cameron Green (73 no).
The Blues declared at 6-443 late on Monday afternoon.
Sean Abbott (2-54) remains the only wicket taker for NSW, Test spinner Nathan Lyon was probing in his first match in seven months (0-48 from 20 overs) but unable to make a breakthrough.
WA will likely have to escalate their scoring or perhaps consider an aggressive declaration to achieve a result on what continues to be an excellent batting wicket in Adelaide.
