Olympic champion Tom Green and fellow Australian Natalia Drobot have claimed silver medals on day two of the canoe sprint world championships in Italy.
Green came up just short against Hungary's Balint Kopasz in the men's K1 1000m final in Milan.
"For me to get on the K1 podium is huge at a world championships," said Green, who won gold in the K2 1000m at the Tokyo Olympics.
"It's been a long journey. I made the first K1000 spot in 2019, and with our team boats going well I've never been able to take out there on my own and try to own a race.
"My confidence has grown throughout the year … I've never felt so good and so confident about the environment and training I've been doing."
Twenty-year-old rising star Drobot became the first Australian woman in 24 years to medal in the hotly contested K1 500m, finishing second behind Poland's Anna Pulawska.
"I'm stoked, these are happy tears," said an emotional Drobot.
"I'm just so happy to be able to put together a nice race and come away with this result.
"This one means a lot, especially given all the hard work that has been put in in the last 10 months.
"It's been a great journey so far and I'm just so happy to come away with a silver medal."
Green and Drobot will back up on the final day of the championships with their respective K2 500 partners.
