'Great to see' - Lewis Warrington hailed for instant impact as Everton star thriving on loan again

Lewis Warrington has been praised for his ability to hit the ground running at Fleetwood Town since joining the League One club on transfer deadline day.

The 19-year-old knows all too well about the benefits an EFL loan can bring, having shone during his temporary switch at Tranmere Rovers during the second half of last season. Warrington became an influential figure within Micky Mellon's side as they pushed for promotion and returned to Everton a more well-rounded player.

Such was the impact of his short stay at Prenton Park, the Blues offered Warrington a two-year contract to keep him at the club and included the teenager on the first team's pre-season tour of America.

Warrington made his professional debut for the club, ironically, in a Carabao Cup second round win over Fleetwood - a side he has since joined in search of regular playing time. His first appearance for the Cod Army arrived in a 1-1 draw with Wycombe Wanderers two days after completing his loan move, with a first 90 minutes coming in a hugely impressive away win at Peterborough United.

Fleetwood will be hoping there are many more impressive performances to come from Everton's academy graduate over the course of the campaign, having already been offered a glimpse of what the boyhood Blue could bring to their midfield.

Speaking after Tuesday evening's surprise away win at Peterborough, assistant head coach Steven Whittaker said : “I thought he was fantastic; we want to play through him at times and he did well at that. It’s great to see him play like that and he just needs to match those levels now week in, week out.

“I think we can play through him more now as he’s a player we need to get on the ball so he can give us a little bit more control than we have done in previous games.”
