Great British Railways: Social media backlash after new-look trains are unveiled

  • Members of the public have taken to social media to criticise the first Great British Railways -branded train, which was revealed on Thursday.
  • Users on X described the Southern Class 387 train as “ugly and impractical”, while also questioning how much it cost.
  • One commenter said: “It looks like it’s wrapped in an advertising campaign for GB news. Surely this can’t be the final design?”
  • In a press release, Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said the branded train marks “an important step towards building a more joined‑up, publicly owned railway.”
  • It is expected that the transition into public ownership will finish by the end of 2027.
