Great British Bake Off: Amanda Georgiou leaves show after pie disaster

Amanda Georgiou was the sixth baker to leave the Great British Bake Off tent after her showstopper pie fell apart in Pastry Week.

The Metropolitan Police officer said taking part in the Channel 4 show over the summer had transported her away from her tough day job.

But the 56-year-old got her marching orders after the judges didn’t like the rose flavour of her signature cream-filled doughnuts and her showstopper pie 'disintegrated'.

Meanwhile, her Baklavas in the technical were bad enough for her to never want to attempt them again.

"My terrine pie disintegrated as I tried to take it out of the tin," she said.

"Chigs came to help me but even he couldn’t rescue the disaster.”

However, Amanda said getting to week six felt like a great achievement.

“I really didn’t want to go but am feeling pretty good about myself that I got over the halfway mark.

"I didn’t think I would get this far [after] seeing all the other bakers.”

The mum-of-two added: “My most memorable moment overall is that my Bake Off experience took me so far away from the harsh realities of the world - it will fill me with joy forever.

“I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of being with my Bake Off family."

Amanda said the group would remain lifelong friends and are still in contact every day.

She has already staged a reunion at her home for the entire cast of 2021’s GBBO.

“The 12 bakers are a fabulous mix of ages, nationalities, characters and upbringings with various interests," she said.

"We were all brought together for our love of baking and each one of us fitted together like a jigsaw puzzle.

"We speak to each other daily in our WhatsApp group, we meet up with each other whenever possible and we all came together at my house this weekend for a BBQ.

"Everyone travelled from all over the country so that we could all be together, it was great to see everyone.

"I now have a new group of friends for life.”

Amanda has been no stranger to collapsing bakes during the series including her surf wave cake, which fell over after judge Paul Hollywood cut a chunk from it, and her fairground horse biscuit, which crumbled as she tried to assemble it.
