Protektorat won the opening race of the festival before favourite Monmiral kept his unbeaten record intact in the Doom Bar Anniversary Hurdle before Clan Des Obeaux won by 26 lengths to second-place Clondaw Castle.
Afterwards, jockey Jack Kennedy guided 5/1 Abacadabras to winning the Betway Aintree Hurdle before 66/1 Cousin Pascal surprised everyone in the Rose Paterson Randox Foxhunters' Open Hunters' Chase with many backing 2/1 favourite Billaway.
