Grand Central to undergo £2m facelift

A Birmingham shopping centre is undergoing a £2 million facelift aimed at boosting the aesthetic appeal of its public areas.

The renovation work will focus on the 'New Street Mall' area of Grand Central, connected to its Stephenson Street entrance, and will include upgrades to the internal walkway, new seating, work to revitalise store fronts and new lighting.

This work is set to complete in October while a second phase, due to be ready next spring, will involve an upgrade to the double-height entrance aimed at enhancing its visibility.

Conrad Bacon, portfolio director with Grand Central and Bullring co-owner Hammerson, said: "This £2 million project will transform New Street Mall and Grand Central, creating a fresh and dynamic entrance, with an eye-catching double-height atrium.

"Across our portfolio, we're always looking at ways to improve the experience for our partners and customers and this is a fantastic example of that.

"Bullring and Grand Central is one of the UK's best retail and leisure destinations and the investment we've announced will help ensure we continue to deliver for both consumers and brands for many years to come."

Brands to join Grand Central in recent months include Herman Ze German's first sausage café outside of London, US restaurant firm Slim Chickens and childrenswear retailer Base.
