Graham Potter handed scathing Cristiano Ronaldo advice as Chelsea warned over major signing

Former Premier League striker Teddy Sheringham has warned Chelsea against signing Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 37-year-old mutually agreed to his departure from Manchester United this week after he released an explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

During the summer transfer window, it was revealed that Todd Boehly was interested with the prospect of bringing the five-time Ballon d'Or winner to Stamford Bridge. However, Thomas Tuchel vetoed the move forcing the wantaway Portuguese attacker to remain in the north west.

As he looks to fire Portugal to World Cup glory in Qatar, at club level, he is now a free agent with lucrative deals across the world rumours. However, it hasn't stopped a move to the Blues from being touted.

But Sheringham believes a move from the United legend to the capital wouldn't be a good idea for both Chelsea and Potter.

"I don't think Ronaldo is a good move for Graham Potter at all. Not so early in his Chelsea career to be dictated who comes in," he said speaking to Boylesports.

"He obviously wants to have a full say on what happens at the club and that would send out the wrong message straight away. Football surprises you every day and you don't know what could happen next, so who knows?"
