Graffiti near Adelaide conservation park buffed with rock-coloured paint

The first coat has already been painted and the second colour will be blended to match the rocks.

A second coat of rock-coloured paint will be applied over a section of the cliffs near the Hallett Cove Conservation Park on Thursday to disguise graffiti that sparked outrage more than a week ago.

The cliffs near between Marino Rocks and the geologically-significant conservation park were recently vandalised with elaborate tags spanning eight metres by three metres.

Due to the inaccessible location at the bottom of a cliff, the City of Marion council was unable to bring in graffiti removal equipment and instead opted to paint over the tags.

Chief executive officer Adrian Skull said they would return today for a second coat of paint that had been blended to match the colour of the rock face.

He said the job would cost the council between $600 and $750.

"We asked a contractor if they could do it, but because of the access issues, they gave us a ridiculous quote of over $3,000, so we used our own labour," Mr Skull said.

Lengthy climb for both vandals and repair crew

"It's not too hard to get to, but there's a bit of a climb and it would have been difficult for the graffitist to get down there," Mr Skull said.

"It was huge and would have taken the tagger a long time to get it done."

Mr Skull said the council received complaints about graffiti wherever it was done, but this piece sparked more complaints than usual because of its location near a pristine conservation park.

"Most people wouldn't see it because you have to walk down a cliff and a lot of people don't go down there, but some do," he said.

"It's a conservation area and it's beautiful.

"This was a pretty ugly thing and quite a few people were not happy about it."
