Govt steps up measures to curb Covid amid increase in tourists in Jaisalmer

JAISALMER: To keep a check on the tourists visiting Jaisalmer for the Christmas and New Year vacation, the district administration and health department have stepped up preventive measures to control the spread of Covid-19.

As many of the tourists are arriving from states with high Corona positive cases, the district health department is checking the vaccination status and taking random samples of tourists at railway station, bus stand, airport and Sonar fort. Hoteliers have been directed to allow entry to customers with both vaccine doses only. Due to the heavy rush, all hotels, guest houses are full and no room will be available for the next 10 days.

Confirming this Jaisalmer CMHO, Dr Kunal Sahu said that many preventive steps have been taken to avoid the Covid-19 spread as there is an increased possibility of a third wave of Corona. Hence, the health department is taking 300-350 random samples of tourists at airports, railway stations, bus stands and tourist places daily. This process will continue for 8-10 days.

Dr Sahu said that customers with both vaccine doses should be allowed entry in hotels. Tourists with any flu-like symptom should be immediately quarantined, he further added.
