Governor DeSantis Promotes Reliable Energy and Job Creation

Florida has a lot of solar energy, but no mandates.

In a recent conversation with Governor DeSantis, concerns were raised over job creation and the potential for renewable energy sources to fuel economic growth. The discussion revolved around the success of wind and solar energy in Iowa, which has led to the creation of numerous jobs across the state.

Governor DeSantis expressed his support for a diversified energy approach, highlighting Florida's significant use of solar power due to its favorable climate conditions. However, he clarified that Florida does not impose mandates in this regard, emphasizing the importance of reliable energy sources. He highlighted the failures experienced in California, where mandates have resulted in rolling blackouts. Governor DeSantis firmly stated his opposition to Biden's Green New Deal, believing it would lead to similar issues on a national scale.

Shifting the conversation towards the economy, concerns were raised about the widening gap between reported economic growth and the experiences of everyday Americans. Governor DeSantis acknowledged that federal government policies, regardless of party, have resulted in inflation and higher costs of living. He stressed the need for Americans to be able to get ahead and achieve the American dream if they are working hard.

Governor DeSantis shared some steps he has taken in Florida to mitigate the impact of inflation on families. Last year, he signed legislation eliminating sales tax on essential baby items, such as diapers and formula. This move aimed to ease the financial burden on families, making it more affordable to raise children.

The discussion then turned to the actions Governor DeSantis would take as president to address economic concerns. He voiced his intent to veto improper spending bills, support term limits for Congress members, and implement a balanced budget requirement. Additionally, Governor DeSantis advocated for providing the president with a line-item veto, granting the ability to remove specific spending items. He expressed his dissatisfaction with how Congress often puts itself above the people, citing the need for a constitutional amendment to ensure that laws apply equally to members of Congress.

Closing the conversation on a lighter note, Governor DeSantis shared a personal anecdote about his children experiencing snow for the first time during a recent visit to the Midwest. He humorously mentioned their desire to have snow in Florida, a climate that is typically warm and snow-free. Governor DeSantis also touched on his wife and son's participation in door-knocking during their snowy visit, noting the increased appreciation for the warmth and sunshine of Southwest Florida.

In recent polls, Governor DeSantis has seen a surge in popularity, placing him neck and neck with Governor Haley. As the race for the presidency heats up, it will be interesting to see how these candidates address the concerns of everyday Americans and shape their visions for the future.
