Government will ask the Queen to suspend Parliament

The UK Government will ask the Queen to suspend Parliament just days after MPs return and weeks before the UK is set to leave the European Union.

The BBC is reporting this morning that Boris Johnson will attempt the remarkable move as he attempts to hold a Queen's Speech laying out his further plans on October 4.

But it would of make it very difficult for MPs to pass any new laws that could stop a chaotic no deal Brexit on October 31.

Boris Johnson looks to be leading the country towards a No Deal Brexit (PA)

BBC Political Editor Laura Kuenssberg quoted a Number 10 source as stating: "A No 10 source said: 'It's time a new government and new PM set out a plan for the country after we leave the EU.'

Yesterday Jeremy Corbyn led cross-party opposition talks aimed at finding a mechanism in the House of Commons that could stop a no deal Brexit on October 31.

The idea of suspending Parliament - known as prorogation - is hugely controversial, with many saying it will stop MPs playing their crucial democratic role.
